- The right ventricle is affected by and contributes to a number of disease processes:
- The most common, pulmonary hypertension is caused by a variety of lung or pulmonary vascular diseases (cor pulmonale).
- RV contraction accounts for 37% of RV pressure rise and LV contraction accounts for 63%.
- The RV differs from the LV in terms of geometry, fiber arrangement, conduction system, coronary flow, and magnitude of ventricular interaction
- Other diseases associated with need for hemodynamic monitoring:
~ right ventricular ischemia or infarction
~ pulmonary or tricuspid valvular heart disease
~ left-to-right shunts.
